I need someone to work on the database for GNUtrition: http://www.gnu.org/software/gnutrition.
The most immediate task is updating the food database (which uses a version from 1999) to the current SR24 from the USDA. There have been significant changes since then.
I already have someone working on the code (currently in Python and scheduled to be reimplemented in C) but he needs a database person to coordinate with. That's where you come in.
You'd be responsible for all aspects of the design, development, implementation, maintainance and support of the SQL database including writing database documentation as needed.
The ideal person would know the GNU/Linux operating system, MySQL, SQLite, Python, C, the Bazaar version control system, and have the ability to understand, document, organize and communicate information to both technical and non-technical people.
This probably won't offer many hours from one week to the next but, for the right candidate, could be a long-term assignment.
