We like to use AJAX type effects on page transitions and messages. Examples :
1. When the customer sees their ticket list 10 tickets shown by default, if they select 25 then Ajax refresh - I.e. don't actually reload page
2. Every action has a confirmation that appears for 10 seconds then disppears
